Accident blocks Highway 27

A single-vehicle accident resulted in a temporary rerouting of Highway 27 last week near Fort St. James. A loaded Selkin Logging truck is thought to have blown the front driver-side tire, causing the driver to completely lose control of the vehicle.

Happy ending for search - Two elderly hunters found safe and sound

Two Vancouver Island hunters were found safe and sound, if a little embarrassed, after a search was mobilized for the pair. On October 7, a report from the men's local contact alerted the Fort St. James RCMP to the men's absence. Larry Slogan, 72 and Harry Roberts, 80, were reportedly supposed to be hunting in management area 726, around Kloch Lake or Takatoot Lake but they failed to check in with their local contact when expected by October 2.

Hunting hangups

There have been reports of issues relating to hunting activities in the Fort St. James area. One complaint was filed regarding irresponsible hunters who left a “polluted” campsite behind. RCMP are reminding hunters and fishermen to be cautious of damage to the environment related to their activities and to ensure their own and other hunters’ safety. Hunters coming after them using the same site could be endangered by habituated bears if garbage is left behind.
